Will commuter cycling ever catch on in Markham?

Governments are also involved in “encouragement projects,” such as Markham Cycling Day, school travel programs, maps and literature. Perhaps the most interesting of these is the Markham Cycles hub (www.markhamcycles.ca), a new test program by The Centre for Active Transportation (TCAT), primarily funded by the Federal Climate Action Fund. It is directed at incubating a cycling culture in a suburban community like Markham. A cycling hub has been built at Milliken Community Centre to offer public access to bicycles and tools, cycling workshops, repair clinics, community rides and other cycling events. A similar project successfully increased cycling in suburban Scarborough, so there is hope for Markham.
