Before and After Evaluation of “Rush Hour” Sharrow Pavement Markings along College Street | September 2014

In 2010, the City of Toronto installed Sharrows on College Street and conducted an evaluation to document before and after conditions. This research project was completed in partnership with the TCAT; we participated in the study design and data analysis, and provided support in soliciting survey staff and participants. This report includes:

  • an overview of the College Street context and design
  • an outline of the methods used for video analysis and the survey of cyclists
  • presentation and discussion of results, with a focus on gauging the effectiveness of the design and cyclists’ attitudes towards the new sharrow applications
  • recommendations for the future application of sharrows on City streets.
