New Year, New Name, New Website!

December 13, 2018 | by Tes Nasca | Photo: TCAT

This time of year is a time to reflect and to celebrate. As we celebrate all the great work TCAT and our partners have achieved in 2018, we’re pleased to announce some ways that we’ve grown as an organization this past year. To wrap up 2018, we’re bringing you the launch of our new website and our new name: The Centre for Active Transportation (formerly Toronto Centre for Active Transportation.)

The Centre for Active Transportation: Born in Toronto, creating impact across Canada

With over 12 years of working for safer and more active streets, TCAT has grown from a local Toronto-based grassroots coalition to an established centre for active transportation research and action. While Toronto remains our home, we’re updating our name to better reflect the nature of our work and our partnerships. We still work passionately for safer and more active streets in Toronto, but our geographic scope has expanded beyond the city limits. We currently have projects in Burlington, Halton Hills, Peterborough, Scarborough, Simcoe Muskoka and other communities across Ontario, and key partners in Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. Our new Complete Streets Game, launched in April of this year, sold the first print run of 250 copies to community leaders from coast-to-coast, across Canada and the USA.

In the years since our founding, it’s been inspiring to work with so many different partners, both within and beyond Toronto, all who share our passion for creating safe, vibrant and active communities. Our new name, The Centre for Active Transportation, better encompasses everything we do—but don’t worry, we’re still TCAT!

A new website, to accompany a new name

TCAT staff have been working hard since the summer to bring you an updated user-friendly website. Working alongside our talented and savvy web developer, Chad Mohr, we have built an interface that will help you to better find the information you need to advance active transportation in your community. And, if you’re looking for professional consulting services to help you achieve your active transportation goals, look no further: TCAT is open for business! On the new services section of our website, municipalities, health units, professional associations, and community organizations can learn about the services offered by TCAT. Our professional services support informed decision-making, engaged communities, and prepared professionals—all of which are essential components to building more safe, active, and healthy communities.

As you peruse the new website, let us know if you spot any bugs or glitches. We’re still working to bring you the best user experience possible. Hope you enjoy it!
