TCAT and GreenUP kicked off our co-design work in a new Peterborough neighbourhood on June 26. We welcomed nearly 300 residents of Peterborough’s Downtown Jackson Creek neighbourhood to a community BBQ and information session on the NeighbourPLAN program. In addition to gathering people around food and community, we spoke with dozens of residents about their desires for public spaces, streets, and sidewalks in their neighbourhood. Folks engaged in participatory planning activities including asset mapping, street safety mapping, surveys, and photo portraits. The level of enthusiasm and engagement we’ve already seen in this neighbourhood excites us, and we look forward to engaging residents throughout the summer to develop a neighbourhood portrait.
Our co-design team is also continuing work in the Jackson Park-Brookdale neighbourhood. Residents of the neighbourhood hosted an open streets event on June 30th, through GreenUP’s Pulse Pop-Up program. Coming up on July 26th, the NeighbourPLAN team will engage residents at a Neighbourhood Vision + Design workshop. This design charrette-style workshop will bring together residents and professionals from across the built environment and public health disciplines, and will support participants to co-design public space interventions for the Jackson Park-Brookdale neighbourhood.
