TCAT Research Presented at Pedestrian Congress in Mexico City

Ryan Anders Whitney, former TCAT employee, was at the third Congreso Peatonal (Pedestrian Congress) in Mexico City from May 4-8, 2016 organized by Liga Peatonal (The Pedestrian League). The congress is the largest of its kind in Latin America and provided valuable opportunities to explore the importance of the pedestrian in Mexican and Latin American cities. At the congress, Ryan presented TCAT’s work on Complete Streets for Canada, examples from the recently released book Complete Streets Transformations and some key results from the report series Bike Lanes, On-Street Parking and Business.

The importance of planning streets for pedestrians, and not only drivers, is rapidly gaining popularity in cities across Mexico and Latin America. TCAT’s work provided attendees with an opportunity to learn about parallel movements happening in Canada and strategies for data collection to help justify street redesigns. Here’s the link to Ryan’s presentation.
