TCAT is pleased to announce that we have hired Marvin Macaraig as Project Coordinator of TCAT’s new Scarborough Cycles: building bike culture beyond downtown project in partnership with Cycle Toronto, Toronto Cycling Think & Do Tank, and CultureLink.
With funding from the Metcalf Foundation Cycle City program, between 2015 and 2017 our team will identify two areas in Scarborough with the highest potential for increasing cycling and develop partnerships with two Scarborough community agencies in those areas to create Bike Hubs that will offer access to bicycles, tools and civic engagement activities. Throughout this project we will build our knowledge and share what we learn about cycling beyond downtown.
Marvin is uniquely qualified to lead this work. Not only does he have an academic background in urban geography and expertise in metropolitan governance and civil society, he has been a longstanding community organizer in Scarborough. Marvin created and organizes the Toronto East Bike Festival and is co-founder of Ward 36 Cyclists. His official start date at TCAT is August 4, 2015. Welcome Marvin!
