On October 31, 2015 TCAT Director Nancy Smith Lea was invited to present an opening address at HIVEX 2015, Hamilton’s 5th annual Young Professional Conference in the session “Re-envisioning your city: Complete Streets for vibrant communities.” To a room full of passionate young city builders, Nancy shared international examples of Complete Streets in different contexts, including some of the best practices from TCAT’s 2015 Complete Streets Forum.
On Nov 9, 2015, Nancy was pleased to be invited to speak on a Complete Streets Panel at Mississauga Moves Transportation Summit. The Summit was a kick-off to the development of the City’s Transportation Master Plan, which will commence in 2016. The TMP process is a perfect opportunity for Mississauga to adopt a Complete Streets policy. Nancy shared some of TCAT’s research results (Complete Streets Catalogue, 2014 & Complete Streets Gap Analysis, 2012). One of the findings in both reports was that TMPs and Official Plans are two of the most common ways for Canadian municipalities to adopt Complete Streets policies.
