On March 28, 2016, TCAT Director Nancy Smith Lea and Active Neighbourhoods Project Manager Car Martin gave a presentation titled “Community Engagement: Approaches to Participatory Design” at a Ryerson University Advanced Research Methods and Analysis graduate course. Following the presentation, Nancy & Car led 36 enthusiastic Ryerson graduate students through a design charrette exercise using TCAT’s Complete Streets Game.
The students focused on finding solutions for Jarvis Street. Not only is this street in close proximity to Ryerson but it has an interesting history of a street that the City attempted to re-design, and a political decision resulted in the street being put back to its original state only two years after a bike lane was installed. The students tackled the street redesign process from the perspective of different road users. The presentation can be viewed on TCAT’s website.
