Board of Health unanimously supports Guide to Safer Streets Near Schools

On September 30, 2016, Nancy Smith Lea and Katie Wittmann presented the recently released Guide to Safer Streets Near Schools to the Board of Health as the focus of the Road Safety for School Children report (HL 14.1). Meghan Sherwin from Kids at Play attended and deputed in support of the motion.

The Guide was enthusiastically received, and the Board unanimously approved the item with some additional recommendations for further dissemination. The detailed decisions and list of organizations receiving the Guide from the Acting Medical Officer of Health are available at the hyperlink above.

The team that created the Guide to Safer Streets Near Schools (Green Communities Canada, TCAT, Toronto Public Health, Toronto District School Board, University of Toronto School of the Environment, and CultureLink Settlement and Community Services) is continuing to distribute the resource and currently considering potential opportunities for evaluation and future updates. The French translation will be available soon.
