Researchers at the Martin Prosperity Institute found that “creative class” jobs are close to subway lines. In contrast to this, service sector jobs are far from any subway line. See the map on the Torontist website.
Patrick Adler, the report’s lead researcher said this about the research: "When you look at our map, and you look at who is best served by something like the subway system, it’s the people in the creative occupations, which tend to make more [money]." Meanwhile, because service sector jobs are spread throughout the city, there are fewer opportunities to access the subway.
The research team has proposed introducing bus rapid transit (BRT) to address this inequality.
