Webinar Series: Supporting Active School Travel in Ontario

Every Friday between November 18th and December 2nd, join TCAT and Green Communities Canada for a three-part webinar series exploring policies and programs that support active school travel.

Webinar 1: Policy Recommendations to Support Active School Travel in Ontario

When: Friday, November 18 | 12:00 – 1:00 PM

From 2020-2022, Green Communities Canada and the Human Environments Analysis Lab at Western University conducted extensive policy research on active school travel, culminating in a final report titled: Evidence-based recommendations for policies to promote active transportation for school journeys. The report contains 57 policy recommendations.

Hosted in collaboration with Green Communities Canada and the Human Environments Analysis Lab, this webinar will to share key findings and actionable recommendations from the report.

TCAT will be joined by guest speaker:

Webinar 2: Traffic Calming and Active School Travel in Ontario

When: Friday, November 25 | 12:00 – 1:30 PM

Hosted in collaboration with Green Communities Canada, this webinar will explore Ontario-based case studies on how traffic calming measures have been harnessed to enhance and encourage active school travel on a municipal and regional scale.

TCAT will be joined by guest speakers:

  • Reena Mistry, York Region District School Board
  • Royce Bodaly, Councillor, Ward 2 Northwest, City of Waterloo

Webinar 3: Winter Snow Maintenance and Active School Travel

When: Friday, December 2 | 12:00 – 1:30 PM

All over Canada, rates of walking and biking to school plummet in winter months. Hosted in collaboration with Green Communities Canada, this webinar will investigate winter snow maintenance and its critical role in supporting active school travel across the country.

TCAT will be joined by guest speakers:

  • Isla Tanaka, City of Edmonton
