Pedestrian Pilot Project Gets Approval in North York

On May 25, 2011, the North York Community Council passed a final decision to temporarily close a short section of Orchard View Boulevard at Yonge Street. The pilot project that aims to create a safer urban environment for local residents will run from June to Thanksgiving. The community is invited to get involved in designing the urban park to maximize participation. The farmer's market at Eglinton Park has been permitted to relocate to this area. Meanwhile, the impacts on traffic from the closure will be measured. This is a positive addition to the three successful downtown pedestrians pilot zones on Gould, Victoria, and Willcocks Street established in 2010 on the Ryerson and University of Toronto campuses.
