Today, TCAT made a presentation to the City's Budget Committee during its public hearings. TCAT has spent the past week reviewing the staff recommended budget, and has identified 4 key priorities to emphasize to the committee. They are:
Doubling the current funding dedicated to cycling promotion,
safety and education staff and programs – like Bike Month and Kids
CAN-Bike Camps – from $164,000 to $328,000 in the City Planning operating budget.
Funding a full-time trails and pathways planner to
Over the past few years, the City and the TTC, along with the local BIA and residents associations, have been working on a plan for the reconstruction of Roncesvalles Avenue. It now looks like this project will go ahead in 2009. The Roncesvalles Village Business Improvement Area has many posts on the redesign process, with drawings and images, as does a group called Roncesvalles Renewed.
Thanks to one of TCAT's supporting organizations, the Friends of Fort York and Garrison Common, for providing an update on the design for the new bridge planned to cross the rail corridor north of Fort York and south of Liberty Village.
At it's meeting this morning Toronto and East York Community Council approved (with amendment) the proposed pedestrian improvements on York Street
from Front Street West to Queens Quay West, to substantially enhance
the pedestrian environment and safety in this rapidly urbanizing
corridor linking the downtown and waterfront.
The City's Transportation Services and City Planning divisions have completed the Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study. The technically preferred design alternative is the Fully At-Grade Dundas Street Loop. The preferred design alternative includes the following features:
