Scarborough Cycles rolling into fall

Summer might be over but Scarborough Cycles programming continues! After receiving feedback from residents we have extended our popular DIY Drop-In Bike Repair sessions into September at our AccessPoint in Danforth Bike Hub (the last day is Sept. 27th).

Earlier this month we also launched an 8-week ‘Earn Your Bike’ pilot program for youth at our AccessPoint hub. Participants build two bikes, one for themselves and one for the bike hub. They also learn bike mechanic skills, how to ride in the safely in the city, and will be supporting the local community through different activities.

Our Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre Bike Hub is sporting a fresh new mural painted by Toronto based artist Moises Frank, also known as ‘Luvsumone’. The mural is his first in Scarborough.

On September 5th, Emma Heffernan, a Scarborough Cycles research assistant wrote an article in Spacing analyzing the barriers to cycling by income, and the important role community bike hubs like ours can play in promoting a more inclusive cycling environment. Read the full article here.
