Toronto Emerging Artivists wins a NXT City Prize

TCAT’s Active Neighbourhoods Canada Project is proud to announce that our community partner the Toronto Emerging Artivists (TEA) of the STEPS Initiative is the winner of the NXT City Prize for best submission from a team under 18 years. The NXT City Prize was designed to encourage youth to come up with brilliant ways to transform public space in the City of Toronto. With their submission, “New Visions for Old Paths,” Gloria, Ezana and Maria of Toronto Emerging Artivists, detailed how a single low-cost mosaic installation in key points of Vendome Place could enhance placemaking while also improving wayfinding to thereby increase safety and the desirability of this confusing, labyrinth like public space. Their submission builds on the Active Neighbourhoods Canada project in Thorncliffe/Flemingdon which seeks to empower community members to improve neighbourhood walking and cycling conditions through participatory planning.
