TCAT has released the latest videos in the It's Your Move series.
In TCAT's seventh video in the It's Your Move series, Nicole Arsenault, Manager of Transportation Services at York University, highlights the importance of dedicated funding for active transportation projects and infrastructure that would help create pedestrian and cycling connections between the University campus, and the Toronto and York Region communities that surround it. York University is undergoing a radical greening to create vibrant walkable spaces as part of its updated Master Plan that incorporates a `Put Pedestrians First` lens.
The eighth video, featuring Vito Tolone, Senior Transportation Planner at the City of Burlington, highlights how Burlington’s recent Transportation Master Plan update, called Go Your Way, sets out a 20-year vision that explicitly recognizes that the automobile is not the only way that people travel.
Burlington, and its innovative approach to accommodating on-street bike lanes without widening road capacity, was also featured in TCAT’s fresh-off-the-press final report Identifying and Overcoming Barriers to the Implementation of Active Transportation Policies. The research study found that policy and practice aimed at incorporating facilities for active transportation as part of roadway projects in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area are evolving rapidly. However, institutionalized barriers continue to exist that promote roadway design primarily oriented toward accommodating motor vehicles.
