As Bike Month wraps up across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, the Toronto Centre for Active Transportation (TCAT) is proud to release the latest video from It’s Your Move series, featuring Nicole Arsenault, Manager of Transportation Services at York University (YorkU).
YorkU has worked hard to increase sustainable transportation and is currently seeing big gains. In the late 1990s, 70% of people in the YorkU community travelled to campus in single occupancy vehicles. Now 80% come by means of sustainable transportation. With the arrival of the Spadina subway extension in 2015, the core of the car-oriented Keele campus will undergo a radical greening to create vibrant walkable spaces. In preparation for this increase in transit access, YorkU updated its Master Plan with a goal to improve wakalbility on campus by incorporating a `Put Pedestrians First` lens.
With Nicole`s It`s Your Move video, we`re highlighting the importance of dedicated funding for active transportation projects and infrastructure that would help create pedestrian and cycling connections between the University campus and the communities of York region that surround it.
TCAT's It's Your Move is a video series that is part of a strategic partnership with Metrolinx designed to promote the importance of walking and cycling. Each video in the 12-part series features a leader living in Halton, York, Peel, Durham, Hamilton or Toronto.
