Nancy Smith Lea, TCAT Director, recently signed the petition “Save Cyclists’ and Pedestrians’ Lives!” and encourages others to do the same. The goal to reach 1,000 signatures has almost been reached. You can read more and sign the petition here:
There are now three coroners reports that have recommended that Transport Canada should make side-guards mandatory on heavy trucks in Canada: Pedestrian Death Review (2012), Cycling Death Review (2012), and A report on cycling fatalities in Toronto 1986-1998: Recommendations for reducing cycling injuries and deaths (1998). Truck sideguards are mandatory in Britain and Europe, and lives have been saved.
