The Annex Resident’s Association Proposes Bloor Bike Policy

Inspired by Clean Air Partnership's 2009 study the Annex Residents Association recently put forward a proposal calling for changes such as "bike lanes on Bloor Street between Bathurst Street and Avenue Road, the construction of fixed barriers between cars and bike lanes, a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h for motorists, the removal of car parking and adding bike boxes at major intersection". (Tsuji 2011)

Bloor is a major street connecting several municipalities, making it an important target particularly in the Annex area where most people either walk or bike to get to shops. While there is support for the idea, the article by The Gleaner also includes potential challenges. Nonetheless, there are hopes that this will be a positive step towards a city-wide bike network of bike lanes.
