The Ministry of Transportation recently released its updated Transit-Supportive Guidelines, available for public comment until March 15, 2011. The draft Guidelines are for use within Ontario’s existing legislative and policy framework by municipalities across the province. According to the new guidelines: "The creation of complete streets is essential to the creation of transit-supported environments." (pg 44) The guide offers practical process, design and planning strategies for implementing Complete Streets in both rural and urban areas. Also included are strategies for supporting pedestrians and cyclists through the creation of complete streets.
