Peterborough’s Jackson Park-Brookdale Neighbourhood is one of three Peterborough neighbourhoods participating in GreenUP’s NeighbourPLAN participatory planning program. Through numerous activities, including asset mapping, infrastructure audits, exploratory walks, and travel route mapping, residents of this neighbourhood have created a Community Portrait. The portrait shows who is using existing public space, how it is being used, and how residents perceive these spaces. In March, many residents participated in a visioning workshop up at Highland Heights Public School.
The next step is a Vision+Design Workshop to review the Community Portrait and collaboratively develop more detailed designs, discuss short and long-term goals, and identify potential partners to help work towards some of these goals. TCAT staff and volunteers will be at the workshop, where we’ll engage in a number of activities to envision design solutions for the neighbourhood. The ideas captured during this workshop will inform the final Neighbourhood Vision, which will be a resource that belongs to the residents of the area, as well as key partner organizations.
