The item featured in a recent TCAT News, Bike Lane Projects On Hold or Cancelled, listed Rogers Road as one of several bike lanes to be eliminated (City Council are voting on this TODAY.)
Daniel Egan, Manager of Cycling Infrastructure and Programs for Toronto Transportation Services wrote to clarify that the proposed modifications to the Rogers Road bicycle lanes will not allow drivers to park in the bicycle lanes. There was confusion about the intent of this motion because it was introduced at committee without accompanying text explaining the purpose and the fact that they will not impact the bicycle lanes. The good news is the design modifications for Rogers Road are intended to maintain the integrity of the bicycle lanes while resolving the local traffic issues. However, there are still several other bike lane removals proposed, which presents a serious set-back for public safety and complete streets.
